I have been keen on the Semogue 2000 for a while, so I was excited to get my hands on this. The 2000 contains White Premium 90% tops, mixed with White Super 70% tops. With a 25mm knot, 60mm loft, total height of 117mm including the beech wood handle, this is a large brush! The 2000 has a reputation for having a great backbone, and is favoured for not only hard soaps, but also soft soaps. Semogue is synonymous with high quality, handmade brushes, offering high quality dense knots, with comfortable premium handles, and the 2000 is no exception. It look beautiful & it performs like the beast it looks! I have heard that many Portuguese barbers use this Semogue 2000 in their shops, for good reason. This is a large knot, it really is. When fully splayed, this will take up a large portion of the face, BUT not too much – the brush’s knot size is ample without feeling too large. The knot is dense – after some use, the brush gets a nice bloom (thus far, not like my 830, who’s bloom would leave some badgers in shame!), and gets easier to splay. My main concern was whether a brush like this, would have too much scrub for my face. The 2000, prior to breaking in, starts off with a little bit of scrub, but honestly it was very comfortable. With every use, the scrub slowly ‘dissipated’, WITHOUT losing any backbone. I can easily load the hardest of soaps with little effort, and just as easily load a soft soap/croap without taking chunks out. After a few weeks of use, the tips are nicely softened, and they’re getting even softer still – without compromising on backbone. Before I face lather, I soak the not for a few minutes– the more it breaks in, the more it feels like a large pillow lathering on the face! It feels awesome. All hardness of soaps were handled very nicely with this brush, and it created a mass amount of luxurious lather. This large knot can hold a large amount of lather, after breaking in, easily holding 3-4+ passes worth of lather. This brush is an awesome addition to anyone’s den, especially if you want to try a big ‘barber grade’ brush, without going overboard in size, AND price.

I bought the brush about a year ago and I have used it often. So my review is not based on what it looks like or on the first few shaves.
This is the best boar bristle brush I have come across in my 40 years of wet shaving. The brush is big. The head is very dense and it develops a splendid lather. The first few shaves the bristles open up like a rose.
With other boar brushes I had problems getting them dry again, but not with this one. This is an achievement taking into account its size and density.
If you are looking for a boar brush then go and buy this one !
