Gabe Shaves Australia –
What I love about quality boar brushes is that they are affordable while still offering some of the most premium feeling knots for wet shavers today. While a good quality badger brush feels wonderful, it can leave your wallet feeling rather light – not so with a boar brush. Some cost more than others, but will offer you a top experience, at a friendly price – collecting boar brushes becomes a lot more possible for the average wet shaving enthusiast. Semogue has been offering world class boar brushes for a long time. The Semogue 610 is no exception to their exceptionally top quality brushes. Featuring a comfortable clear acrylic octagonal handle, with round bottom and top, the ‘Best 90% Tops’ grade boar is seated very stylishly within an aluminium bristle ring. The 21mm knot has a loft of 50mm, while the handle height measures 43mm. As with every boar brush, it does require a reasonable break-in period, however I find that after 5 or so shaves, the brush starts to perform comfortably – the brush gets much nicer and performs at it its peak after more shaves though. The 610 is a smaller brush and offers real backbone to load even the hardest of soaps. What I enjoy about Semogue is that even their small brushes have a wonderful face feel – no scritch. This 610 just feels really nice, it offers mild scrub (not scritch!) to make face lathering really easy. I find these small brushes (620/610) are super for face latherers, as their backbone really acts as a ‘catalyst’ for whipping up a solid lather, quick. Some shavers have concerns regarding whether the 610 can hold enough lather for a full shave – I can comfortably get enough lather for a full 3 pass shave with my 610 (and 620). Initially during early break-in, it’s not uncommon to need to reload mid-shave, which was the case for me, but after around 3-5 shaves, the brush already started to whip up plenty of lather for a comfortable 3 pass shave. I recommend you check out the Semogue 610.
