Gabe Shaves Australia –
Semogue has a phenomenal reputation in the shaving community for its range of supreme quality boar brushes as well as its lovely badger brushes. Offering some of the most premium quality boar bristles, Semogue brushes are worthy of the rave reviews they receive globally. This Semogue 620 was sent to me for review by the Portuguese Factory. I have personally purchased several Semogues from here, as these guys offer the best prices I have ever seen on Semogues, and the customer service is always terrific! The Semogue 620 has a knot size of 22mm, with a loft size of 50mm. With a handle of 43mm, the overall total height is around 93mm. The 620 uses Extra 75% Tops grade bristle, which is known to have terrific backbone and is favoured by face latherers. I am not a fan of scratchy brushes, so I wasn’t sure what I would think. My 830 is so soft and I wondered how the 620 would perform. I have lathered this brush in a bowl, face lathered many times now, using soft soaps, creams and hard soaps (MWF, Tabac, etc). This brush is NOT scratchy! As it breaks in, the tips get softer, while retaining backbone. The handle is awesome to hold, ensuring a good grip even with the slipperiest soaps. Being a smaller brush, I was concerned that the brush would not hold enough lather for a 3 pass shave. Initially when it arrived, as we know, it required breaking in, and I had to reload the brush mid shave as the lather ‘ran out’. But now, some 15+ shaves later, this brush EASILY holds enough lather for 3+ passes. Ensuring to load plenty initially, I take to my face and lather away. It builds lather incredibly – the harder I press to my face, it just lathers more, and does NOT scratch, but maintains backbone – a wonderful balance has been struck in this brush. With every shave this brush actually gets better and better. I can’t recommend this highly enough, especially if you face lather. Do yourself a favor and pickup this brush!
