Cheira bom / smells good

I appreciate almost all of the products of “Achilles Brito”. Among the more experienced wet shavers, shaving creams of Portugal have been renowned for their outstanding quality for decades. In recent years a lot of new, fantastic shaving soap/cream makers came on the market, and they are catching up fast. Nevertheless, “Creme de Barbear Lavanda” of “Achilles Brito” remains on the high end. The obviously dominating scent is lavender, but there is definitely more to it, such as citrus and woody notes.

One of my new favourite shaving creams

Ach. Brito’s Lavanda shaving cream has been high on my list to try, for some time now. This shaving cream has legendary status in the shaving community, and its history spans some 70 years. It was discontinued a few years ago, but was brought back by popular demand. I love lavender scented products, and hearing about the legendary status of this cream, I was excited when The Portuguese Factory was kind enough to send me a tube of Lavanda shaving cream for review. Although the scent has lavender notes, it is not a pure lavender scent – rather it is a mixture of lavender, slight menthol-like scent, with a mild citrus top note - a very pleasant scent. I have used this cream with both badger and boar brushes a number of times, and both worked very well. I have now used a fair number of well-known shaving creams, from various countries of origin, and I enjoy virtually all of them, but I will say right from the start, this Ach. Brito Lavanda has produced some of the best lather that I have experienced from a shaving cream, period - I know that’s a huge call. Containing coconut oil, lanolin, as well as oat extract, I found Lavanda to give an absolutely top quality shave. The lather whips up incredibly easily whether bowl or face lathering. Being a face latherer, I loaded a generous almond sized dollop of cream straight into my Semogue 2000 brush – face lathering this cream just feels so rich and smooth. From the start I could tell this cream was going to provide plenty of cushion – and it really did. Taking the blade to my face, Lavanda provides a very nice, slick protective layer to the face with generous cushioning. The scent is pleasant but not overpowering throughout the shave. The post-shave of this cream is just wonderful. The lanolin, no doubt, has a lot to do with that – the skin feels well moisturised, hydrated and soft. Honestly speaking, Lavanda has actually become one of favourite shaving creams. It’s easy to see why this cream has such a renowned status. I highly recommend this one folks.
